The Turkish tribes that migrated from the north of the Black Sea to Eastern Europe and the Balkans adopted an oral tradition rather than a written one, in accordance with their character. This makes it very difficult to access information about their names, identities, culture and socio-economic life.
However, despite all this, the available data show that the Gagauz are a Turkish community, consisting of Hun, Ogur, Avar, Kipchak, Pecheneg, Oghuz, Seljuk and Ottoman Turks who migrated to the region. They dispersed throughout history to various regions of Romania and Ukraine such as Dobruja, Bessarabia, Bucak and over time they intermingled and formed the Gagauz identity.
