This work, an attempt at historical sociology, examines the Tanzimat period, a very important period in Turkish history, and the Turkish family in Istanbul during this period in terms of social change.
The work attempts to determine the importance of Istanbul, an embodied monument of thousands of years of Turkish cultural heritage, the traditional Turkish family structure, the extent to which the Tanzimat-era changes affected our family institution, and the social, political, economic and cultural reasons for these effects by examining every phase of life, from entertainment to shopping.
