Yanik Creek was a thin, ordinary stream that brought water flowing from the Palandöken Mountains to the city, between the bastion and the city, to the west of Aziziye Bastions in the east of Erzurum.

This was close to the places where I spent my childhood.

During my primary school years, my beloved teachers took us to where the stream was and said: "This is Yanık Creek."

They explained why it was called Yanık Creek; but we did not understand anything those years.

But a burnt valley always remained in my memory, without knowing exactly what it was.

I also remembered the 'French Hospital' in the Mahallebaşı district.

It was right across from our school in Mahallebaşı, where I went to primary school.

A three-story ruined stone building with burn marks here and there, with only its walls still standing.

Then, in my childhood, people would tell me how my grandmother's brother was bayoneted in a ballot box by Armenian soldiers.
