The aim of our study, "Coups and the Turkish Press," which analyzes the Turkish press's response to four military coups and countless coup attempts over the course of 37 years, is not to once again condemn the juntas before history, to once again expose the newspapers that applauded the coups, to exonerate the political cadres whose responsibilities in the coups are as clear as daylight, or to accuse them of cowardice.
The resulting work certainly contains observations on all these issues; however, its primary purpose is to provide logistical support for the democratic arsenal necessary for us to face the future with greater confidence, and to remind us once again, through examples, of the enormous toll borne by the involvement of the Turkish Armed Forces, the greatest insurance policy for our national security, in politics.
