Gülru Vardar was born on April 23, 1971 in Bozüyük / Bilecik. After graduating from Bozüyük Atatürk Primary School, she completed her middle and high school education at İstanbul Kadıköy Anatolian High School.

Vardar graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University and completed her master's degree in 'International Business and Finance' at C.W. Post, Long Island University, New York.

After working in finance for many years in New York, Istanbul, Geneva and Zurich, she completed her second master's degree in 'Contemporary Art Curatorship and Social Analysis' at ZHdK, Zurich University of the Arts.

In her curatorial work, she focuses on socially engaged art, monuments in public spaces, installations and relational aesthetics. In her own artistic work, she blends Anatolian mysticism with the conceptualism of Marcel Duchamp and Joseph Beuys. She produces..
