In the history of Turkish literature, since the early twentieth century, there have been efforts among Turkish intellectuals to transform Turkish history into an epic, based on the example of Shahname.
Among these, the highly successful works of Basri Gocul and Niyazi Yıldırım Gençosmanoğlu, whose names and memories we remember with respect, are among the first that come to mind.
Unfortunately, these works have not reached the level of covering Turkish history from beginning to end that they aimed to.
.
Following in the footsteps of these pioneers and striving for many years to express Turkish history in the form of an epic in verse, Mustafa Kaya, under the pen name Akozan, has a first in his work, Hakanname.
